Well....
Theres five ways to choose 1 coin. Theres 10 ways to choose 2 coins. Theres 10 ways to choose 3 coins. Theres 5 ways to choose 4 coins Theres 1 way to choose five coins. 5+10+10+5+1 = 31?

Thanks, that seems right. in fact, it is right when i look at the answer key. the answer key i have also contains explanations but the reason i posted up here was because i didn't understand the explanation that they gave. they sort of gave me this formula that looks like this > 2^51=31. Well, the way I did it is the way I know how to do it... Using Permutations and Combinations which we just took a test on today....
If you have a graphing calculator theres a button under Math > Prb > Then either nCr or nPr depending on what you want to do. Its a combination or a permutation depending on what your doing. What math are you in? I'll be on my computer all day tomo if you want any more help or anything since I'm at work all day and I just sit there reading a book for half of it. I think it's 5x4x3x2x1=120. I may be wrong though. Playing right now and did the section months ago.
